Tempe Police Department

Officer Greg Bacon is currently serving the Tempe Police Department as a Public Information Officer within the Media Relations Unit.  Officer Bacon has been with the Tempe Police Department since May of 2004.  In May of 2004, Officer Bacon obtained his bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in English.  In 2009, he completed his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Supervision.  During his ten year career with the Tempe Police Department, Officer Greg Bacon has completed various assignments.  After completing the academy, he worked as a patrol officer until September 2006 when he transferred to the traffic bureau as a DUI enforcement officer where he remained until May of 2008.  In May 2008, Officer Bacon transferred back to the patrol division and worked in that capacity until September 2009.  

In September 2009, Officer Bacon completed motor school and became a motorcycle officer assigned to the traffic bureau with numerous responsibilities.  He remained in that capacity until July 2013 when he successfully completed the testing process to become a School Resource Officer assigned to Marcos de Niza High School.  Officer Bacon was the SRO at Marcos de Niza High School from August 2013 until June 2015.  

From June 2015-April 2019, Officer Bacon transferred to the Tempe Police Department’s Special Victim’s Unit and served as a Child and Sex Crimes Detective.  Although no longer assigned to the SRO program, Detective Bacon remains active in the SRO program and with the Marcos de Niza High School Community.
