GET INVOLVED!

Behavioral Levels

In the pod area, the privileges extended to the youth at the Center are clearly displayed in several places for both the officer and the youth to see. Acceptable behavior expectations are clearly posted in all pod areas so that everyone understands the expected behaviors and what adhering to those expectations can earn them.

Information regarding schedules, level privileges, and expectations are posted for the officers and the youth in various areas of the living area. The color of their shirt will determine what level the youth is currently earning and what privileges can be extended to them.

Cell

Each detained youth is assigned to a pod, and within that pod are several cells. Each cell has both a toilet and a small sink for personal use, a bed with a mattress, and linens including a pillow. These items are laundered frequently, and linen exchange is a formal process during the week.

Courtyard

The opportunity for the youth to engage in outside activities extends to the growing of herbs, vegetables, and small fruit. Allowing the youth an opportunity to test out new skills and interests is a compelling reason for the garden. The produce grown in the garden is used in food preparation at the Center to enhance the dining for the youth. Also available in the courtyard area are several outside games for the youth to participate and interact with. This allows for building of relationaships with both other detainees and adult staff, as well as providing open air experiences.

Hygiene Dispensary

As the youth make their way into the general pod, they visit the supply area where the staff will dispense personal hygiene supplies such as soap, deodorant, and shampoo. Also, in this area, the additional snacks that the youth can earn through good behavior are stored and when earned, they can select the treat they want.

Intake Area

The pink pod serves as the intake room and the pod that the youth will remain in until they have been assessed, processed, and taken through the day-to-day routines of the detention center. Once medical, psychological, and educational needs have been assessed, they will be moved into the common pod area to serve their term.
