We the People: The Citizen and Democracy

Overview: This online workshop will utilize the newest We the People: The Citizen and Democracy textbook. Published by the Center for Civic Education, this textbook is designed for 3-5th grade students and focuses on our nation’s founding principles and values of democracy. Encourage students to learn about their rights and responsibilities from a young age! Educators will gain a comprehensive understanding of the curriculum and will participate in interactive activities that correlate with the lessons in the textbook. Attendees will receive a free classroom set of We the People: The Citizen and Democracy textbooks plus a teacher’s guidebook. 

SROs/JPOs are invited to attend; however, please note this training does not fulfill the yearly advanced LRE Academy requirement for School Safety Program funded officers. 

Training Objectives:  

  • Explore the We the People: The Citizen and Democracy textbook 
  • Engage elementary students in learning about our government 
  • Understand strategies to teach elementary students about the U.S. Constitution 
  • Learn how to implement a congressional hearing 

Campus Issues Addressed:  

  • Lack of school involvement
  • Lack of understanding rights and responsibilities 
  • Low academic achievement 
  • Lack of civic participation
