Students Create Change

Event Overview

This program of the Center for Civic Education engages young people in cooperative, project-based learning and empowers them to positively create change in their community. Through engaging in a project to address the needs of the community, educators and students will gain a better understanding of public policy and how our government works. Educators will take students through all elements of inquiry found in the new Arizona History and Social Science standards, from asking questions, researching, and using evidence, to communicating conclusions and taking informed action! This training will be divided into three sections: online modules to be completed in October 2022, in-person session on November 3, 2022, and virtual session on January 19, 2023.

Section 1: Participants of this training will be required to complete a series of short, online modules prior to attending the November 3 training in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the program.

Section 2: Participants who successfully complete the online modules and attend the November 3 training will receive a FREE classroom set of Project Citizen textbooks and $50 educator stipend. Those who have received a free set of Project Citizen textbooks through the Foundation between 2021-present, will not be eligible to receive another classroom set of textbooks.

Section 3: The final component for participants is to attend the virtual training on January 19, 2023 from 3:30pm-6:30pm via ZoomThis portion of the training will be geared towards helping teachers guide their students towards the successful completion and submission of an e-portfolio that addresses a public policy concern. Participants who complete all 3 training components and whose students successfully submit an e-portfolio that addresses a public policy issue will be eligible for a $150 stipend (available for a maximum of 10 teachers).
