Event Overview

This academy will equip educators with lessons that teach effective communication skills. Students will learn alternatives to using hateful speech to express themselves. Conflict resolution strategies and effective communication to resist negative peer pressure will be practiced. Students will also learn the importance of setting boundaries with dating relationships and the consequences of sexting. These lessons will help students understand the importance of listening and respecting what others say too. Students will have opportunities to practice asking questions to clarify what others mean and effectively communicate their own thoughts. 

Training Objectives: 

• Educate students on the consequences of inappropriate communications 
• Teach effective communication skills to reduce hateful speech and resolve conflicts 
• Provide opportunities for students to practice effective communications to prevent escalating aggression 
• Provide youth with skills to recognize healthy relationships
