Secondary Social Studies Specialist

Terri is currently the Secondary Social Studies Specialist for Mesa Public Schools and serves as a Faculty Associate for Northern Arizona University teaching social studies methods courses.  She received her B.S.Ed. from Illinois State University and her M.Ed. from NAU.  While devoting the past 27 years of her career to education, Terri has been afforded many opportunities to enhance social studies education in Arizona.  Before her position at the district office in Mesa, she taught seventh, eighth and ninth grade Social Studies at Rhodes Junior High in Mesa for 13 years.  She successfully implemented the Project Citizen program in her eighth grade classes during the last years at Rhodes.  Within those years, she entered nine teams in the district showcase, with two teams being invited to the state showcase each year.  One of those teams taking first place in the Oral Presentation category at the 2005-2006 state showcase.

Terri has been with the Foundation for the past 14 years as a facilitator for the iCivics, Project Citizen, Kids Voting and the Representative Democracy in America programs.  In addition, she has served as District Coordinator for Project Citizen, helped organize district and state showcases for PC, and spent extensive time encouraging teachers to implement iCivics across the state.  Terri has presented in multiple local, state and national conferences and served as a lead facilitator for multiple summer institutes.  She looks forward to continuing her efforts in supporting teachers in social studies.
