Phoenix Police Department

Detective Barnes has been with the Phoenix Police Department for 12 years and currently serves the department’s Crimes Against Children Unit.  Prior to this position, Detective Barnes was a school resource officer assigned to School Safety Program Site, North High School.  His love of teaching enabled him to integrate into the classroom easily and he also served as the wrestling coach. Detective Barnes had the privilege of serving as the school resource officer for the high school he graduated from.  This rare opportunity allowed Detective Barnes to connect with the students on a personal level and deepened his dedication to his students and surrounding community.  During his four years as an SRO funded by the School Safety Program, he made prominent connections with the school staff and community.  As a result of his knowledge and expertise, Detective Barnes was invited and attended the Foundation’s LRE Train-the-Trainer in 2013.  Kelly has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Northern Arizona University. He has given numerous hours of service to the youth and men organizations of his church. He is also a dedicated husband and father of three kids.
