Sergeant Kelly Barnes has served as a School Resource Officer for four years and has been faculty for the Foundation’s Law Related Education (LRE) program since 2013. Kelly utilizes his diversified experiences as a teacher, coach, and SRO to provide practical advice and relevant insight on how to connect with students in the classroom and on campus. Kelly’s dynamic background in education and law enforcement empower him to deliver a quality training experience that expertly provides training participants with real world applications. During trainings, he skillfully demonstrates how LRE is utilized as a prevention tool to help reduce risky behavior in youth by providing participants with scenarios, demonstrations, and a student centered approach. Kelly facilitates many of the Foundation’s New Officer Trainings which provide new School Safety Officers a strong foundation in LRE including best practices and classroom implementation. His ability to skillfully model the best practices sets the new officers up with the tools and techniques they need to succeed thereby positively impacting the students they serve. With the utmost professional demeanor, Kelly has a wonderful personality that shines when he is facilitating and interacting with participants. His ability to create an atmosphere of inquiry and discovery both in an online and in-person training truly engages participants allowing them to learn and retain information. Kelly is always willing to assist as faculty to impart the importance of LRE and the positive influence it has on the community.
