Empowering Young Leaders: Building Strong Partnerships in Teen Court

Event Overview

Youth are the leaders of today! Young people bring perspectives and experiences that are vital to social change and need the support and partnership of adult allies to fully realize their leadership power. In this fun and interactive session, we will also learn and explore the philosophy and framework of positive youth and adult partnerships, the Hart’s Ladder of Youth Participation, adultism and anecdotes, and strategies for building powerful youth and adult partnerships. This session is especially valuable for Teen Court programs, where youth take on real leadership roles and benefit from supportive, equitable relationships with adult mentors.

In this workshop participants will:

  • Understand the impacts and anecdotes of Adultism
  • Gain tools in growing authentic youth engagement and creating equitable youth and adult partnerships
  • Build community and share wisdom with other folks who work with youth
Determine next steps for applying tools to better support youth and adult partnerships
  • Gain strategies to empower youth to lead effectively in peer-led justice initiatives such as Teen Court
