Q: What is a tort?

A: A tort is committed when you cause damages to a person, property, or reputation. It does not matter whether the damages were done on purpose or by accident, you may be sued by the person or people you damaged in a civil court. Additionally, some torts (like assault) are also crimes, so the person may also appear before a criminal court for the same conduct.
