The Arizona Mock Mediation Tournament focuses on learning the process of a legal mediation while developing life-long skills like collaboration, negotiation, public speaking and quick thinking.
The Mock Mediation Tournament provides students an opportunity to compete in teams of 3 and take turns playing the roles of advocate, client, and mediator.
Room Hosts ensure that each round within the Mock Mediation Tournament starts on time and that each phase within the Mock Mediation round happens in order. Each room host ensures that the correct teams are in their room, that all parties sit in their assigned place at the mediation table, and that the judges for the round have correctly labeled paper ballots. The room host starts the round and ends the round after 60 minutes and oversees a further 10 minutes of verbal feedback from the judges to the students. At the conclusion of the feedback session, the room host takes the completed scoresheets to the scoring room after ensuring that each is filled out completely. An orientation is provided on the day of the tournament.
The Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education is committed to equitable treatment and the recognition of the rights of all individuals to mutual respect and to be treated fairly. All organizational efforts throughout all programs, by both staff and volunteers, are directed towards creating an environment that is based on these values.
