School safety is a relevant concern for all students and families today. Waiting until middle and high school to teach students about acting and staying safe while at school is not enough. By teaching youth at a young age how important reporting unsafe actions is, we may be able to reduce the stigma that “snitches” are the problem. Instead, we can teach youth from a young age what safe actions are and how reporting can save peers from hurtful actions. This academy will introduce our youngest K-12 learners to the importance of school safety, how to recognize when an issue should be reported, and who they should report to. Age-appropriate activities and strategies will be modeled that will help students fully understand the content and give them the tools to be an active participant in school safety.
