A national campaign from Homeland Security is “If you see something, say something”. This is a popular slogan among schools. When students are educated on the impact of school threats, they may be more likely to report what they hear or see. This academy is tailored for upper elementary students’ specific learning style. Participants will be equipped with lessons that teach this age group the difference between accurate reporting and tattling and the importance of being active and aware citizens helping to keep their school safe. Lessons will be modeled that will help youth understand the impact of false reporting to themselves and their school community. In addition, activities will be provided that will allow youth to understand that their words matter. Words spoken in anger must be taken seriously to keep everyone safe.
