Connecting the Officer and the Community

Overview:

State schools’ chief Tom Horne, in his 2026 State of Education speech, told the House Education Committee that students cannot achieve academically if schools are not safe. This training will provide participants with necessary tools for working with lower grade levels by delivering interactive lessons that help students understand the role of law enforcement on campus. The lessons will equip students with skills to interact respectfully with law enforcement and develop emergency awareness, while the officer implementing the LRE will have the opportunity to build community relationships and trust.

School Safety Program funded officers are welcome to attend, but this training will not fulfill their yearly training requirement.

Academy Objectives:

  • Inform students the role of an officer on campus
  • Teach students the importance of emergency awareness
  • Respectful social interactions with authority

Campus Issues Addressed:

  • Lack of safety in school
  • Lack of positive school involvement
  • Lack of understanding laws and rules
  • Lack of student connection with law enforcement
