Introduction

The Navajo Juvenile Detention Center is located in Holbrook, Arizona, in the Governmental Complex, just south of the town center. The facility is built to hold 10 youths maximum and routinely has, on average, 2 youths detained there. This facility is designed to be an area where the youth can be held while awaiting charges or adjudication of the court. The average stay is short term, considered to be a few weeks. However, if the court determines the need for a longer stay, a maximum stay of 120 days can be carried out. Because the Center sits within the Municipal Complex, it is a short walk to court for the detainees and officers. There are also several county agencies that can deliver services to the youth from within the complex.

The Youth Justice Center is only used, when NECESSARY, for those youth that:

  • Pose community safety issues if released until their appointed court date.
  • May fail to show up for their court date.
  • May re-offend or get re-arrested if released before their appointed court date.
  • Do not have a place to go while waiting for their court date.
