Event Overview

Campus discipline issues and juvenile delinquency can be reduced when students understand the importance of seeking consent while interacting with their peers.  There are many circumstances that require permission and clear, verbal permission is the best.  Students may need assistance understanding why they cannot borrow their friend’s cellphone without asking, why hugging may make others uncomfortable, and when teasing goes too far.  Conflict can arise when youth do not understand the impact lack of consent will cause.  This training will provide participants with interactive methods to educate youth on the importance of obtaining permission during their social interactions and to respect the decisions of others.  Students will learn how to recognize when consent is needed and provided and how to communicate their personal boundaries to others.

Training Objectives:

  • Educate youth on the various laws pertaining to social interactions
  • Teach students how to recognize when consent is needed and provided
  • Empower youth to be assertive when communicating their personal boundaries
  • Provide opportunity for students to think critically and act responsibly

Campus Issues Addressed:

  • Lack of understanding of rights and responsibilities
  • Peer pressure

  • Disrespect for others
  • Dating violence
