Superior Court of Arizona in Maricopa County, Juvenile Department
LawForKids.org staff were graciously invited to tour the Juvenile Department of the Superior Court in Maricopa County, to learn more about the court process and how it supports youth and families. This virtual tour provides pictures and information to better understand the types of hearings held at the court and what young people may experience. Most youth appear in juvenile court for one of two types of hearings:
- Delinquency hearings – for cases where a judge determines if a youth committed a delinquent act. A delinquent act is something that would be a crime if committed by an adult. These hearings address what happened, whether the youth is responsible, and what steps they should follow.
- Dependency hearings – for cases involving abuse, neglect, or situations where a child’s safety or care is in question. These hearings focus on protecting the child and determining the best living situation.
If you are visiting the court, enter through the main entrance and proceed through security.
