What is a Control Group Teacher?

Control group teachers are educators who agree to not implement the Project Citizen curriculum during the 2025–2026 academic year. Instead, they continue teaching their regular social studies or civics curriculum as usual. This allows researchers to compare outcomes between students who are exposed to Project Citizen and those who are not, helping us assess the program’s impact on civic engagement and media literacy.

      What's Involved?

      • Pretests and Posttests: Control teachers and their students complete a pretest and posttest as part of the evaluation process. These tests help measure changes in civic knowledge and attitudes over the course of the school year.
      • No Implementation of Project Citizen: To maintain the integrity of the research, control group teachers must not teach or incorporate any part of the Project Citizen curriculum in their classrooms during the program year.
      • Compensation: Control group teachers who meet all program requirements will receive a $300 stipend in appreciation of their participation.
