Education/Programming
The multi-purpose room serves various functions, including hosting classes, programming sessions, recreation, and physical activities.
Education in the juvenile detention center runs from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with a lunch break and four short breaks throughout the day. A block schedule is used, allowing students to focus on fewer subjects at a time, helping them catch up on credits or graduate faster. Juveniles in care study subjects such as Math, English Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Mental Health, and Physical Health. Students also have access to a GED program and online college classes. School operates year-round with scheduled breaks for spring, winter, and other holidays.
Staff on-site develop programming activities tailored to the needs and interests of the youth in their care. Common activities include arts and crafts, puzzles, sports, music, journaling, life skills workshops, group discussions, and recreational games. These activities provide creative outlets, encourage social interaction, and support personal growth. Programming is available 4-5 afternoons per week, totaling an average of 10-12 hours weekly.
