Education/Programming

Education in the juvenile detention center includes a range of general courses such as social studies, science, math, and English language arts. In addition to core academics, youth may participate in electives such as music. Some youth are also provided specialized support, such as parenting classes. The school program follows a traditional calendar with breaks for winter and summer, during which special activities such as guest speakers and arts and crafts are provided.

The facility offers a program to help youth prepare for their GED and also partners with Arizona State University to provide opportunities for earning college credits. Graduations are celebrated with ceremonies that parents are invited to attend, emphasizing the importance of education and family involvement in the youth’s progress.

The juvenile detention center offers a variety of daily programming activities to engage youth and build skills. These include clubs like guitar, drawing, and arts and crafts. Youth at behavior levels 4 and 5 have opportunities to develop responsibility by assisting staff with tasks such as cleaning and laundry. Additionally, all youth can practice important life skills like interview techniques to prepare for the future.
