Hygeine

Each cell in the detention center is equipped with a toilet and a small sink to assist with personal hygiene. In addition, there is a designated hygiene area within the unit. For daily hygiene, youth are provided with deodorant, a toothbrush, toothpaste, lotion, soap, shampoo, conditioner, and a comb. Youth who demonstrate positive behavior may become eligible to receive upgraded hygiene products as part of the facility’s incentive program. Hygiene products are kept in cabinets in the unit managed by staff. Each day, youth are given 7 minutes in the shower and 15 to 30 minutes for personal hygiene routines.

Youth are expected to maintain a clean and neat appearance, including combed hair and clean clothing. To support this, laundry is done daily to ensure youth have access to fresh clothes. Hairstyles such as a bun or braid are required for longer hair.
