Objectives: As a result of this training, participants will be able to… 

  • Provide students with strategies that empower them to contribute to a safe school
  • Inform students what a school threat is
  • Teach students the importance of careful speech
  • Help students understand when reporting is necessary

Participants will sign-in and enjoy a continental breakfast.

 

9:00 AM     Welcome, Introductions, & Housekeeping

Introduction of academy faculty and staff. Overview of academy objectives and housekeeping.

Academy Expectations

Participants will discuss expectations for the academy.       

 

Icebreaker

Participants will get to know their peers.

 

Lesson 1 Understanding School Precautions

Participants will engage in a lesson demonstration that teaches youth the purpose of school rules and safety procedures.

Lesson 2 What is Considered a Weapon on Campus?

Participants will engage in a lesson demonstration that explains the legal consequences of bringing a weapon on campus.                

Lesson 3 Impact of Threats and Intimidation

Participants will engage in a lesson demonstration that teaches youth how words said in anger can impact their future.

Escape Room

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the escape rooms on LawForKids.org.

Lesson 4 The Impact of False Reporting

Participants will engage in a lesson demonstration that teaches youth the consequences of false reporting and its impact.

Lesson 5 When to Report?

Participants will engage in a lesson demonstration that discusses when reporting is necessary and who to report to.

Lesson 6 Community Resources

Participants will engage in a lesson demonstration that teaches youth how to help themselves or others in need of behavioral health resources.

Wrap Up

Participants will review the training expectations and submit evaluations.

 

ADE Update

Participants will be informed of new updates.
