MINORS & GUNS

Laws are put into place to ensure safety for the overall population as well as guarantee rights for individuals. The “right of the people to keep and bear Arms…” is detailed in the 2nd Amendment of the United States Constitution and is a constant topic of discussion all over the media today. The Federal and State governments have the power to enforce rules and regulations pertaining to firearms and who is able to legally own one.

WHY CAN'T I STAY OUT PAST 10PM?

My mom and dad are so mean, they won’t let me stay out on a school night past 10pm.  Why is that?  I have to be in by midnight on Friday and Saturday nights.  How come I can’t stay out as late as I want?  Need the answers to these questions?

SOCIAL MEDIA AS A MEANS FOR SEX TRAFFICKING

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, KIK and Snapchat.  All of these are social media that kids are using to correspond with friends, acquaintances, and strangers.  They also use social media to talk about their life, how they want to run away, how they don’t feel loved or valued.  Men and women are looking at social media for these type of kids to lure them into the life of sex trafficking.

WHAT IS A CURFEW?

A curfew prohibits anyone under the age of 18 from being outside or in a public area without adult supervision. A county, city, or town ordinance determines curfew times and disciplinary action can be taken if found in violation. One of the stiffer punishments for remaining out past curfew can include being charged with a criminal misdemeanor—breaking curfew is a serious matter.

NEW LAW REQUIRES PASSING A CIVICS TEST

Arizona recently passed a new law that requires all high school students and GED candidates to pass a 100 question civic test.  This test will become mandatory starting in the 2016-2017 school year and will require a 60% pass rate. The test will come from the civics portion of the Citizenship test and was created in the hope to create more informed citizens with a better understanding of the workings of the government.

HOW A BAR OF SOAP CAN SAVE A HUMAN TRAFFICKING VICTIM

A bar of soap can save a human trafficking victim.  That doesn’t seem possible. Yet it has saved a few young people in Michigan and Ohio.  Theresa Flores started the campaign – S.O.A.P. (Save Our Adolescents from Prostitution) and is in Phoenix, AZ to assist in saving human trafficking victims.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING LAW MUCH TOUGHER ON THE GUILTY PARTY

Arizona House Bill 2454 came into law July 24, 2014 making penalties much tougher on those guilty of human trafficking. The law also provides more protection for the victims.
