Supporting DAFN in Emergencies/Drills

Event Overview

The Supporting Students with DAFN training will provide attendees with an introduction to the various disability/specialized need categories, an improved understanding of the legislation that guides school emergency planning for students with disabilities and/or access and functional needs (DAFN), an improved understanding of how to plan for students with DAFN across the phases of emergency management, and resources to support school staff when planning for students with DAFN in emergencies.

ASU Counselor and Social Worker Series: Expressive Therapeutic Interventions

Event Overview

Expressive arts interventions, used to address stress and challenges in children, can be a great intervention to utilize in a school based setting. This brief form of intervention can be administered in school counseling and classroom based settings, and utilizes a "bottoms-up approach", focusing on sensory and emotional awareness and regulation.

Chronic Absenteeism and Truancy

Event Overview

This in-person course will discuss how schools can develop strategies to support strong attendance rates and buy-in from school staff and families, discussing some of the most common factors that negatively impact attendance, especially now in a post-COVID world, discuss some barriers to strong attendance, discuss how to support positive attendance, and discuss recommendations for both prevention and a response to truancy - in this section, the Maricopa County Juvenile Court CUTS (Court Unified Truancy Suppression) program officer will discuss a successful program to respond appropriately to chronic absenteeism and truancy.

Virtual QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Suicide Prevention Course

Just like CPR, QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) is an emergency response to someone in crisis and can save lives. QPR is an evidence-based suicide prevention training, approved by AHCCCS as the state mental health authority and Medicaid agency, to support schools in meeting the legislative requirements of the Mitch Warnock Act, ARS 15-120.
