Civic Learning Week Summit
Event Overview
The Civic Learning Week Summit is a Kids Voting Arizona event designed for middle and high school educators and their students. Each participating teacher will attend with up to six students for a day of interactive sessions featuring guest speakers on topics related to voting, elections, and civic engagement. The summit will also include student-led activities facilitated by members of the Kids Voting Leadership Council, providing participants with opportunities to build leadership skills while exploring the importance of informed and active citizenship. Teachers who attend will leave with ready-to-use lesson plans, "I Voted" stickers, and Kids Voting Arizona Family Activity Booklets.
This academy will address the following two history and social science anchor standards:
- C1: Civic virtues and democratic principles are key components of the American political system.
- C2: Citizens have individual rights, roles, and responsibilities.
Academy Objectives:
- Explore strategies for teaching voting, elections, and civic participation
- Gain lessons, activities, and resources aligned with Arizona state standards
- Learn how to participate in the Kids Voting AZ mock midterm election
Campus Issues Addressed:
- Lack of understanding of rights and responsibilities
- Low academic achievement
- Lack of civic participation
- Lack of interest in school
