Marijuana and Hallucinogens Awareness
Overview:
With recreational marijuana use being legal in Arizona after the age of 21, students may be receiving mixed messages about the impact marijuana use may have on their development. According to the Arizona Youth Survey for 2022 30% of high school students reported using some form of marijuana. There is a growing percentage of high school students who are also using hallucinogens such as mushrooms and LSD. This academy will educate students on the effect drug use can have on the development of their plans for the future. Students will practice strategies to reduce negative peer pressure, increase healthy decision-making, and develop informed views of drug use.
Academy Objectives:
- Educated youth on the effects of drug use
- Identify strategies to avoid peer pressure
- Teach informed decision making
Campus Issues Addressed:
- Increased in teen use of marijuana and hallucinogens
- A high number of students have used drugs as a result of peer pressure
- Students deal with stress and mental health by consuming drugs
