Overcoming Truancy in Elementary School

Overview:

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics truancy starts at a young age. 10% of students in kindergarten and first grade missed a month or more of their school year.[1] This academy will cover engagement strategies to motivate students to attend school by learning about the positivity of attending school, family engagement, and how to deal with challenges at school. Participants will receive interactive lessons and resources to take to their campus and make a difference on truancy. 


 Academy Objectives:

  • Understand the importance of attending school
  • Identify ways to deal with challenges at school
  • Recognize the importance of family involvement in school attendance

Campus Issues Addressed:

  • Chronic absences
  • Lack of family involvement
  • Low motivation towards school
