Truancy: Understanding and Overcoming Barriers
Overview:
The 2022 Arizona Youth Survey concluded that 62% of students have a low school commitment. This academy is geared towards increasing student connection to school life. Participants will learn interactive ways to educate students on the risks and consequences of truancy. Activities will be provided that help youth examine the short and long-term outcomes of poor school attendance. Lessons will enable students to explore strategies to overcome challenges they experience when they try to attend school.
Academy Objectives:
- Educate students about truancy laws in Arizona
- Learn interactive strategies that promote academic engagement
- Help students understand the correlation between education and their future career path
