School Threats: Safety Starts With You Academy

(Grades 3-5)

Participant Agenda

 

Objectives: As a result of this training, participants will be able to… 

  • Inform students what a school threat is
  • Help primary students understand tattling vs. reporting
  • Help students understand when reporting is important
  • Empower students to use their voice to keep their campus safe

 

January 15, 2026

 

8:30-9:00 AM     Check-In

Participants will sign-in and enjoy a continental breakfast.

 

9:00 AM     Welcome, Introductions, & Housekeeping

Introduction of academy faculty and staff. Overview of academy objectives and housekeeping.

Facilitators: Brad Lorenz and Ashley Cagnetta

 

Academy Expectations

Participants will discuss expectations for the academy.       

 

Icebreaker

Participants will get to know their peers.

 

Lesson 1 What is a School Threat?

Participants will engage in a lesson demonstration that teaches youth the difference between what school threat is and is not.

Lesson 2 Tattling vs Reporting

Participants will engage in a lesson demonstration that teaches youth the difference between tattling and reporting.    

Lesson 3 False Reporting

Participants will engage in a lesson demonstration that explains the consequences of making a false report.

Escape Room

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the escape rooms on LawForKids.org.                       

 

Lunch 

 

What Do You Think? Poll Question          

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the interactive poll question tool on LawForKids.org.   

Lesson 4 What Would You Do?

Participants will engage in a lesson demonstration that teaches youth to recognize unsafe situations and how to respond appropriately.

Lesson 5 Words Matter

Participants will engage in a lesson demonstration that explains how words said in anger can make others feel unsafe.

Lesson 6 Safety Hero

Participants will engage in a lesson demonstration that discusses their role in keeping school safe.

Wrap Up

Participants will review the training expectations and submit evaluations.

 

ADE Update

Participants will be informed of new updates.
