Preventing Dangerous Situations in School

Overview:
According to the 2022 Arizona Youth Survey, about 17% of students reported that it would be “sort of” or “very” easy to acquire a handgun. This academy will focus on helping youth understand the consequences of bringing weapons/dangerous instruments on campus as well as what to do if a peer does. It will educate youth on how making false threats can impact the school and community as well as the legal consequences it can bring. Information will be provided that will inform youth on the importance of reporting unsafe situations and how school rules and laws keep the community safe.
Academy Objectives:
- Educate students on Arizona laws relevant to students
- Help youth understand the dangers of weapons on campus
- Empower youth to help prevent violence on campus
- Inform youth of the legal consequences of their words and actions
Campus Issues Addressed:
- Lack of understanding of legal consequences
- Weapons on campus
- False reporting
