Event Overview

This virtual course will identify the common barriers that all schools face in their attempts to prevent bullying and provide a systematic approach to successfully implementing bullying prevention efforts. Throughout this session, you will navigate your district's/school's bullying prevention policies and practices to determine which barriers you are facing. When you have identified the unique barriers you are facing, this course will offer resources for you to begin planning your strategic efforts for bullying prevention.

This in-person course will discuss how schools can develop strategies to support strong attendance rates and buy-in from school staff and families, discussing some of the most common factors that negatively impact attendance, especially now in a post-COVID world, discuss some barriers to strong attendance, discuss how to support positive attendance, and recommendations for both prevention and a response to truancy - in this section, the Maricopa County Juvenile Court CUTS (Court Unified Truancy Suppression) program officer will discuss a successful program to respond appropriately to chronic absenteeism and truancy.

Event Overview

This interactive in-person course designed for school-based Social Workers and Counselors will review current data and trends regarding the mental and emotional wellness of today’s school-aged youth. Participants will learn creative and effective school-appropriate strategies for supporting students who struggle with a range of mental health issues including anxiety and depression.

Please note: *Only training registered through Law for Kids counts towards your annual training requirement. Previously attended Documentation Series trainings or other training opportunities will not count.

Recent legislative updates to Arizona Revised Statute 15-341 (31) (a) states that emergency response plans must address how schools will communicate with and provide assistance to students with disabilities. To support school districts in implementing this mandate, the School Preparedness team will discuss Senate Bill 1315, share resources from current ADE guidance documents, and discuss best practices.
