Position: Attorney

Steven P. Kramer has been an Arizona attorney for 37 years, and coached High School Mock Trial from 2013 to 2023. Steve has brought, defended, and tried civil lawsuits involving catastrophic injuries and commercial disputes. For 17 years, from 1986 to 2003, he worked for large and medium-sized law firms, defending lawsuits in the areas of product liability, aviation, medical malpractice, commercial transport, liquor liability, insurance coverage, bad faith, and commercial litigation. Since 2004, Steve has represented injured people in wrongful death and personal injury actions involving injuries from a variety of causes, including defective products, medical malpractice, motor vehicles, animals, and unsafe premises. As a settlement judge and private mediator, Steve has mediated more than 95 cases.

Steve has served as an Arizona Superior Court Judge Pro Tempore in the ADR and Civil Departments since 2008. In addition to conducting civil settlement conferences, Steve has presided over short jury trials, bench trials and hundreds of hearings.

Steve earned his B.A. in Economics from Grinnell College in 1979. From 1979-1983, he worked as an economist for the U.S. Consumer Price Index in Washington, D.C. In 1986, Steve earned his J.D. from The College of William & Mary, where he received American Jurisprudence Book Awards in Evidence and Torts.

In 2019-20 Steve served as Chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of the Arizona State Bar. He has been a member of the ADR Section Executive Counsel since 2014 and chaired the Section’s Bar Convention CLE Committee from 2015-2018. Steve has also served on the State Bar Civil Jury Instructions Committee since 2015 and chaired that Committee in 2018-2020.

Steve coached the Chaparral High School Mock Trial Team from 2013 to 2013 and volunteered in the CourtWorks Federal Court Mock Trial Program from 2013-2019. Since 2016, Steve has served as a judge for the Southwest Regional College Mock Trial Competition. Steve served as a judge and mediator for the ABA Law School Representation in Mediation Competition in 2013 and 2017. Steve has also recently judged National and local High School Mock Mediation tournaments. Steve has participated in medical-legal presentations for health care provider groups and chaired or co-presented in more than 10 ADR-related CLE programs for attorneys.

Steve's community service includes Chaparral High School project graduation 2013, 2014; Brophy Prep Project Graduation, 2015-2017; Assisting in school events at Cocopah Middle School, including field trips, Disneyland Concert and carnival; State Bar Law-Related Education Committee (State v Goldilocks); State Bar Speaker’s Bureau; Valley of the Sun United Way fund allocation committee; Sequoya Elementary School Art Masterpiece Program; North Scottsdale Little League, manager and coach (5 years); NYS, coach, baseball and basketball; National Junior Achievement Conference, Bloomington Indiana, staff (1976-1989), JA company advisor, Grinnell, Iowa (1976-1979) and Washington D.C. (1980-82).
