MacKenzie Uliasz has been involved with the iCivics AZ E-Tournament for three years now. Each year, she has had middle and high school students compete and each year she has had student teams reach the State E-Tournament in both grade divisions. Additionally, over the last three years her teams have enjoyed two third place high school division finishes, two runner-up finishes—one in each division and one first place finish in the high school division.
Ms. Uliasz is the social studies teacher for Accelerated Learning Laboratory and teaches both middle and high school students. Among the classes she teaches are history, government, and economics. Previously, she has served as a coach for Speech and Debate at Accelerated Learning Laboratory which was really her students' introduction to law-based extracurricular activities. On a related note, she also coaches for National History Day at her school. Her students have been participating in that competition for five years and have qualified for nationals every year, placing twice at the national competition. Ms. Uliasz also teaches US Government & Politics, and her students compete in a mock election and draft their own Bill of Rights. On several occasions, she has also traveled with students to Washington, DC, where they have visited the Capitol and the Supreme Court amongst other places so that they can gain a greater understanding of our government.
